About the qualification
This is a nationally recognised qualification in the installation and maintenance of air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits). The qualification is recognised by Micro-generation Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies as an acceptable qualification to join one of their respective schemes.
The programme is delivered as a structured package across two BPEC courses (installation/maintenance + design).

- BPEC Low Temperature Hot Water Heating Systems (Design) — 2 days

Pre-requisites
Who is this course for?
Learners must hold one of the qualifications below (or equivalent evidence of competence), plus Water Regulations/Byelaws (or equivalent).
Required (one of)
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing (or equivalent)
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating & Ventilating (Domestic Installation) (or equivalent)
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating & Ventilating (Industrial & Commercial Installation) (or equivalent)
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services (or equivalent)
- N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation & Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Wet central heating installers with experience evidenced by Gas Safe (CENWAT) or OFTEC (OFT10-105E / OFT15-108W)
Plus
- Water Regs UK Water Regulations / Water Byelaws (or equivalent)

Heat Pump Systems (Level 3)
- Know the requirements to size, select, install, commission and handover air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits)
- Plan, prepare, install, commission and maintain air source heat pump systems (non-refrigerant circuits)
Low Temperature Systems (Design)
- Recommended for installers wishing to be responsible for design (including MCS design responsibilities)
- Develop skills in the design of low temperature domestic heating systems
- Recognised competence for low temperature system design (not installation competence)
Learning & assessment
- Classroom-based and practical learning
- Theoretical and practical assessment (aligned to BPEC requirements)
- Some independent study may be required prior to attendance
